'For now': £17m Nottingham Forest player seemingly does not rule out leaving this summer

Nottingham Forest are now almost certain of Premier League football for another campaign but one player has suggested that he might not stay at the club.

The Reds lost 3-2 against Chelsea at the weekend – but Luton and Burnley also lost on Saturday afternoon.

Forest will need a mathematical turnaround of epic proportions to be relegated, and plans can loosely be made for next season.

Several players will likely head out of the City Ground exit but now one of the club’s star players has remained coy on his future.

Taiwo Awoniyi makes claim about Nottingham Forest future

The striker recently returned to action and he got himself another substitute appearance against Chelsea.

Once again, it’s been a tough season for the Nigerian who has missed a host of games through injury.

Now, in an interview with the Nigerian publicationSoccer Net, he’s seemingly failed to stamp his colours to the mast beyond this season.

He said: “That’s a tough one, but I’m still under contract with Nottingham Forest and I’m here.

“So for now, I’m a Nottingham Forest player.”

Forest need to get help for injury-prone striker

Forget offloading Awoniyi, the Reds need to get another striker capable of starting games to share the workload.

Chris Wood has done a grand job this year in filling the void whilst Awoniyi has been injured but he’s not getting any younger.

As a result, Forest need to stick with Awoniyi but also sign another striker who can share the goalscoring responsibility.

The player’s injury problems are an issue but given that he’s scored 17 goals sincesigning for the club for £17 million.

It’s perhaps a little concerning that Awoniyi hasn’t been more defiant when quizzed about his future.

However, football can be a fickle industry for players and now it remains to be seen if he has any offers to leave this summer.
