Jurgen Klopp should hand 'special' Liverpool youngster his Premier League debut vs Wolverhampton - opinion

In his final game in charge of Liverpool, Jurgen Klopp should give a ‘special’ youngster his Premier League debut.

It has all come down to this. One final game now remains of Jurgen Klopp’s era at Liverpool. Even writing out those words doesn’t quite feel real.

Klopp has been synonymous with everything to do with Liverpool over the last nine years. He has completely transformed the club and returned the Reds to their glory years.

It doesn’t quite feel like his chapter should be ending. However, he has made a decision that is completely understandable.

Why Lewis Koumas deserves his Premier League debut

Fortunately, Klopp leaves Liverpool in a really healthy situation. This season he has built an exciting young squad and has promoted a lot of youth players.

Among them has been Lewis Koumas, who is a really promising young winger. He showed that in flashes on his debut for Liverpool in the FA Cup against Southampton, or in pre-season last summer with the first team.

However, since making his competitive debut and scoring his first goal in the first team, Koumas is yet to make another appearance under Klopp.

That should change on the final day of the season. There is no pressure on Liverpool anymore, and this is the perfect opportunity for Klopp to give someone like Koumas his chance in the Premier League.

What has Koumas done two years in a row at Liverpool?

Koumas finished the season as the U21 team’s top-scorer – a feat he also achieved at U18 level last season for Liverpool.

Earlier on in the season, Jurgen Klopp named Lewis Koumas in a group he called ‘special’ from the club’s academy.

He is clearly a very bright talent, and someone who will relish working with Arne Slot next season.
