During the Global Peace Summit scheduled to take place in Switzerland in June, there will be no direct negotiations regarding the end of the war in Ukraine, states Olaf Scholz, the Chancellor of Germany, in an interview with Stern magazine.
"No one should have excessive expectations. At best, it is the beginning of a process that could lead to direct talks between Ukraine and Russia," said Scholz.
At the same time, he noted that during the Peace Summit, participants will discuss the security of nuclear power plants, grain exports, prisoner exchanges, and the prohibition of nuclear weapons.
The German Chancellor also added that there is currently an unsatisfactory response from Europeans regarding his call to provide more weapons to Ukraine.
"It is depressing because Ukraine urgently needs additional air defense systems. Putin clearly intends to destroy Ukraine's infrastructure," Scholz noted.
Peace Summit
The Global Peace Summit will take place in Switzerland on June 15-16. Ukraine and Switzerland have invited over 150 countries to the event.
Several world leaders have already confirmed their participation in the Peace Summit, but Russia has not received an invitation.
