'You need to find some more': Ian Wright sends a clear message to Nottingham Forest's Callum Hudson-Odoi

Nottingham Forest may have been beaten against Chelsea on Saturday but fans can head into the final weekend of the season with some comfort.

Forest rallied back from a goal down against Chelsea to take a 2-1 lead, but then saw the Blues launch a comeback of their own.

Chelsea ended up winning 3-2 but that didn’t leave Forest fans too gutted with safety pretty much secured now.

Luton Town’s defeat at West Ham United means Forest are effectively safe barring a ridiculous swing of results come Sunday.

Forest have endured a turbulent season but there may be reason for fans to be excited about next season.

Murillo, Ola Aina and Morgan Gibbs-White all had strong seasons and there is real talent on the flanks.

Few full backs will want to face up against Anthony Elanga or Callum Hudson-Odoi any time soon – but the latter has been urged to improve.

Ian Wright on Callum Hudson-Odoi

Hudson-Odoi has been the man in form of late.

The 23-year-old scored twice against Sheffield United before finding the net against his former club Chelsea.

That is now eight goals in 28 Premier League games for Hudson-Odoi, who has been getting his career back on track at Forest.

The hope is that Hudson-Odoi will really kick on and show even more quality next season.

Pundit Ian Wright – formerly of Forest himself – has now told Wrighty’s House that he thinks Hudson-Odoi needs to add more variety to his game.

Hudson-Odoi has made a real habit of cutting in from the left flank and curling right-footed shots into the net.

Wright is worried that defenders will start to shut that option down moving forward, believing that Hudson-Odoi now needs to improve in terms of attacking on his left side.

Wright wants to see Hudson-Odoi improve and develop his game in order to take his game to another level after a strong debut campaign at Forest.

“With him and what we know he is capable of doing, just needs to get a variety to himself,” said Wright. “If you are at that age and you have got a signature goal because that is your go-to goal, you need to find some more because this is early. You need to be able to do the same on the left, so you can faint and then, because people are going to stop you from scoring your signature goal. You should be able to do on both sides. Those are the things he needs to improve you. I can’t remember him scoring too many goals with his left foot,” he added.

Hudson-Odoi could be even more important next season

The former Chelsea wide man needed to settle down and play regular first-team football.

Forest have provided that chance for Hudson-Odoi and the early signs are encouraging.

The goals are flowing for Hudson-Odoi and maybe Wright is correct in terms of wanting to see the Forest man add more strings to his bow.

Next season could be a big one for Hudson-Odoi amid doubts over Morgan Gibbs-White’s long-term future at the City Ground.

Gibbs-White is bound to attract huge interest and whilst the hope is that he will stay put, a big sale may be needed.

If that happens, the likes of Hudson-Odoi and Elanga will need to step up in order to bring creativity and flair in the final third.

Hudson-Odoi certainly has the potential to be Forest’s go-to man in attack and more games, more development and more faith in him may just create a superstar.
