Todd Blanche, Donald Trump's defense attorney, got tepid reviews for his initial cross-examination of a critical witness in the former president's hush money trial.
Throughout his cross-examination of Michael Cohen on Tuesday, Blanche seemed to jump from topic to topic without necessarily tying them together, experts said.
"[M]y basic assessment — cross is not crisp, clean, or quick enough. [N]ot clear at any given time where he's going," lawyer Harry Litman wrote for the Los Angeles Times.
Lawfare's Tyler McBrien seemed to agree.
"After an hour and 15 minutes of cross, most of it boring and seemingly aimless, we haven't spoken about the payments or business records one single time," McBrien wrote on X.

CNN analyst Elie Honig said he found Blanche's performance confusing.
"I think for the last 15, 20 minutes, it's gotten a little bit confused and confusing," Honig said. "I think he's jumping quite quickly from one theme to another, and he doesn't seem to be fully fleshing out these things."
"I mean, all of this has its place, but the organizational structure here, to me, is lacking," he added.
