'The Premier League has ever seen': Carragher makes an enormous claim about £55m Man City star in Spurs win

Jamie Carragher made a huge claim about maestro Kevin De Bruyne during Manchester City’s win over Tottenham Hotspur.

City played their game in hand tonight at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, and managed to get the job done and go top of the Premier League table.

City did not play particularly well.

There was sloppiness throughout, and a very odd atmosphere inside the ground, with some Spurs fans hoping for a City win to help stop Arsenal.

But it was the famous connection of Kevin De Bruyne to Erling Haaland that got the job done for City. Haaland then scored from the penalty spot to make sure of the points

Pep Guardiola will now take his side to West Ham United on Sunday, with Arsenal – who are two points behind – in action at home against Everton.

De Bruyne tabled his 18th assist of the season tonight, and Jamie Carragher made a very big claim about the Belgian while on commentary for Sky Sports…

City were far from their best level against Spurs.

The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium has not been a very happy hunting ground in recent years, and it seemed that, with everything at stake, nerves played a part.

But in the end, it was two world-class players combining, which got City the points.

It was great work from Phil Foden initially to scamper down the left wing. He played the ball across and it came through to Bernardo Silva.

Bernardo played in De Bruyne, who fired in an inch-perfect low cross for his partner-in-crime at the back post.

Shortly after the goal, Carragher then made a huge claim about De Bruyne following his assist.

He said on Sky: “This is about Man City and that front three. You mentioned David Silva and Kevin De Bruyne, making that run in between full-back and centre-back and he always puts it on a plate. For Aguero and Gundogan in the past. This time it’s Haaland.

“He’s (Postecoglou) angry. Well you’re up against the best passer of the ball the Premier League has ever seen. That’s why he gets so many assists.”

Clutch Kev

City were far from their best tonight, but performance was never going to matter too much – it was always going to be about the result.

De Bruyne didn’t have his best game, but he came in clutch as he so often does.

There is certainly a case to be made for De Bruyne being the greatest passer the Premier League has ever seen.

He may not be the most accurate. But that is because he is always taking risks – and more often not those risks pay off.

What a sensational player he has been, and despite being injured for a lot of the campaign, it looks like he will still have made an enormous contribution.
