What Tottenham fans were singing about Arsenal whilst losing to Man City

Arsenal fans found themselves in a position where they were hoping for bitter rivals Tottenham Hotspur to win a match.

Spurs were facing Manchester City in a crucial game for all three teams. Arsenal and Man City are going head to head for the Premier League title, and any dropped points for Pep Guardiola’s side would have put the Gunners in the driving seat.

Tottenham had to win both of their matches to stay in with a chance of a top-four finish, but they could not deliver a favourable result as they lost 2-0 at home.

Erling Haaland scored a brace, but the result could have been very different as Heung-Min Son missed a glorious chance to equalise with the score at 1-0.

Haaland’s first goal came after yet more poor defending from Cristian Romero, and his second came from a penalty given away just minutes after Son failed to capitalise on his huge chance, but despite watching their own side ruin their chances of Champions League football next season, some Spurs fans enjoyed what they saw.

After Haaland’s first goal went in, Spurs fans were chanting “are you watching Arsenal,” referring to the damage the goal would have done to their title chances.

Chants of “stand up if you hate Arsenal” were also audible in an otherwise subdued atmosphere, but some Spurs fans were even pictured celebrating with the Man City ‘Poznan’ celebration after the goal.

There have been other instances where clubs had to rely on their rivals to help their title chances, and Arsenal fans were not too delighted to have to hope for a Spurs result.

Spurs have just missed out on Champions League football for next season, whilst also losing for the fifth time in six games, but clearly their main focus was on whether Arsenal were going to win the league title.

Arsenal will be confident that they will challenge for major honours again next season, but whilst this Spurs defeat did not help their title chances, it did also show the gulf in quality between Postecoglou’s side and the top two teams.
