Jose Mourinho could reunite with former Man Utd star after ‘approach’ for first new role since Roma sacking

Former Roma boss Jose Mourinho could reunite with an ex-Manchester United signing after the ‘Special One’ was reportedly ‘contacted’ over a new role in management.

Jose Mourinho has been out of management since January after his spell at Serie A side Roma ended with his dismissal.

The 61-year-old manager had led Roma to the Europa Conference League title in his debut season and reached the Europa League final in the previous campaign.

However, Mourinho’s third season in charge at the Stadio Olimpico saw Roma in ninth place in Serie A at the time of his sacking.

The Portuguese head coach has attracted interest since his departure from the Italian club, including receiving a lucrative offer from Saudi Arabian side Al Shabab.

Despite his time out of the dugout, former Manchester United manager Mourinho ruled out the idea of retirement and filtered with a return in the future.

Mourinho could link up with former Man Utd signing

Jose Mourinho enjoyed a successful spell in charge of Manchester United after he replaced former Red Devils boss Louis van Gaal in the Old Trafford dugout.

The former Chelsea and Real Madrid manager’s debut season at Old Trafford saw United lift the League Cup and the Europa League title.

Mourinho fell short of the Premier League trophy in his second season as United manager, with the Red Devils finishing 19 points behind Manchester City.

The ‘Special One’ brought several new signings to United, including the likes of Victor Lindelof, Nemanja Matic, Romelu Lukaku, Fred and Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

According to The Sun, Mourinho has been linked with Turkish side Fenerbahce.

The newspaper claims that reports in Turkey have suggested that Fenerbahce chairman Aziz Yildirim had ‘contacted’ the former United boss.

The Sun added that Mourinho ‘could be offered the chance’ to succeed Ismail Kartal as Fenerbahce manager, leading to a potential reunion with former United star Fred.

Fred left Man Utd for Fenerbahce

Fred was Mourinho’s second major signing of the 2018 summer transfer window after United landed him in a deal worth £47m from Shakhtar Donetsk.

The 31-year-old Brazilian midfielder was a preferred midfield option for both Mourinho and former United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

However, Fred was a divisive figure among United supporters due to the infamous ‘McFred’ partnership in midfield alongside Scott McTominay.

United legend Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was a big fan of the Scott McTominay and Fred partnership, but the same couldn’t be said for manager Erik ten Hag.

Fred played under Erik ten Hag after the Dutchman’s arrival at Old Trafford, but he was later deemed surplus to requirement ahead of the current campaign.

The former Brazil international made his exit from Old Trafford last August and completed his move to Fenerbahce for an initial £8.62m fee.
