'I am told': The day Mauricio Pochettino's future at Chelsea could be decided - journalist

Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino could learn his fate very soon.

Approaching the final year of his contract and with Chelsea not having the best of seasons, Mauricio Pochettino‘s future is currently up in the air.

When the Argentine discusses the current campaign with the club’s owners and sporting directors, he will surely bring up the team’s recent improvement.

Following wins against Nottingham Forest, West Ham United and Tottenham Hotspur, the Blues could move up into sixth if they beat Brighton & Hove Albion and Newcastle United drop points against Manchester United.

However, the Chelsea board will point out that Champions League qualification was the team’s objective. Former Blues player Pat Nevin thinks it would be madness for the club to sack Pochettino at the end of the season.

When could a decision on Mauricio Pochettino’s future be made?

The 2023/24 Premier League campaign finishes on Sunday, and it looks like Pochettino’s future will be decided shortly after that.

According to journalist Simon Phillips, Chelsea are going to have their end-of-season review the following day.

On his Substack, he wrote: “Chelsea’s season will be over on Sunday, and I am told that as soon as Monday, the end of season summit will happen.”

The journalist also went on to add:“Mauricio Pochettino and his staff will sit down with sporting directors Paul Winstanley and Laurence Stewart, and owners Behdad Eghbali and Todd Boehly to discuss the season and where to go from here.”

What will the outcome of Chelsea’s end-of-season review be?

There have been some really difficult moments for Chelsea this term.

It was only last month when Pochettino’s side were hammered 5-0 by London rivals Arsenal.

Even so, Boehly and Eghbali have still stuck with the Argentine. Since then, Chelsea have really improved to the point where Europa League qualification now looks like a real possibility.

Ultimately, unless Chelsea totally capitulate in their last two games of the season, it would be a bit of a surprise if they decided to get rid of Pochettino. He is really starting to get a tune out of this team now.
