‘Nothing short of exceptional’: Pundit says one Man City player was ‘excellent’ vs Tottenham Hotspur

Paul Robinson has heaped praise on one Manchester City player for his performance against Tottenham Hotspur.

In their penultimate match of the Premier League season, the Citizens beat Spurs 2-0 in North London thanks to two goals from Erling Haaland.

With the Blues now two points ahead of Arsenal at the top of the table, a win against West Ham United this weekend would seal a fourth Premier League title in a row for City.

Despite Haaland bagging a brace to earn his side a victory and take them a step closer to winning the title and getting himself closer to the Golden Boot, another figure in the City team, who had a big impact on the game, found himself on the end of some significant praise for what he did on the pitch.

Speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live (via BBC Sport) after the match, Robinson had this to say about what he saw from Stefan Ortega on the night.

He said: “Stefan Ortega who came on midway through the second half was nothing short of exceptional.

“As a second-choice goalkeeper, you are on the bench and you don’t want to come on, it is so hard to get up to speed with the game.

“What Ortega has done coming on when he did and producing those two moments, he has been excellent.”

Ortega was City’s hero against Spurs

After Ederson was forced off the pitch after being concussed by a challenge from Cristian Romero, Ortega came on in the 69th minute to see out the game for the away side.

During his time on the pitch, the German made two vital saves to help his side keep a clean sheet, one coming from a near-post shot by Dejan Kulusevski and the other coming from Son Heung-min, who was put in a one-v-one situation with Ortega after nabbing the ball off Manuel Akanji.

This makes it easy to see why Robinson, who made 375 Premier League appearances as a goalkeeper so will know what it takes to be a top-flight shot-stopper in big games, was so full of praise for Ortega and what he did in the second half against Spurs.
