'He reminds me': Kyle Walker compares one Man City teammate to 520-game Bayern Munich legend

Manchester City recorded a huge win over Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League on Tuesday night and after the game, captain Kyle Walker compared one of his teammates to a legend of the game.

City are now two points clear of Arsenal at the top of the table, after beating Spurs 2-0 down in north London.

It was not the greatest performance from City. But that was never going to be too important – all that mattered was winning.

And City were able to do that thanks to two more goals from Erling Haaland. Kevin De Bruyne set him up for his first, and he then scored an emphatic penalty in injury-time after Jeremy Doku was fouled.

Before Haaland scored his second goal though, there was a very dicey moment when Heung-min Son went through on goal.

But Stefan Ortega made an amazing save – and after the game, Kyle Walker likened the star to a legend…

The big names stepped up on Tuesday night for City.

De Bruyne found Haaland to break the deadlock, which helped settle the nerves on what was a really strange night.

Haaland then went on to score a penalty, but Spurs could very easily have equalised just moments before that.

Manuel Akanji showed too much of the ball to Brennan Johnson, and Heung-min Son then went racing through on goal. He tried to shoot across to the far corner, but Ortega spread himself so wide and made the save.

It was a save that Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher believes has now won City the title, and after the game, Kyle Walker said Ortega was like Bayern Munich legend Manuel Neuer.

He said on Sky: “He’s got that spread hasn’t he? He reminds me of a Neuer. The German goalkeepers have got that spread. He has just got down and his big calf has come into play.

“I bet his heart was in his mouth. I was just thinking no, no, not again. And for Sonny obviously we have spent so much time together here at Tottenham previously and he’s the nicest man in football, so for him to do it to me, I don’t think I could have forgiven him but the stars were aligned for us.”

Ortega saved Manchester City

What a moment it was Ortega when he made that save from Son.

Most people would have fancied the South Korean to score in that situation given his finishing ability. But City’s number two made himself as big as possible, and came in clutch. Now, he’s given City a golden chance to wrap up a fourth straight league title.

It is quite the comparison from Walker.

Manuel Neuer is obviously a legend of the game for all he has done at Bayern Munich, having made 520 appearances for the club.

He is widely regarded as one of the all-time great goalkeepers, and someone who has always been amazing at sweeping and coming out on top in one-vs-one situations. Certainly, Ortega channelled the 38-year-old against Spurs to deny Son.
