‘Hurt’: Barry Ferguson points out the Celtic hero who done ‘a bit of damage’ vs Rangers

The reality of losing to Celtic has really his some Rangers pundits really hard this week.

The win means Celtic are within a point of winning the league again and it’s really affected the likes of Kenny Miller and Graeme Souness.

And up next is Barry Ferguson. The former Rangers hero was picking over the bones of the Glasgow Derby defeat and whilst he accepted the result, Ferguson admits his old club failed to put the shackles on one Celtic player who has proven time and again that he is crucial when it comes to these big games.

Ferguson hails McGregor as a ‘very good footballer’

Celtic travel to Kilmarnock tonight knowing that a positive result will clinch the league title. And the fans will be hoping that Callum McGregor will put in a performance like he did against Rangers on Saturday.

Because if the Celtic captain is allowed to do what Ferguson points out that he did against Rangers, the league title will all but be confirmed tonight.

Ferguson said [The Go Radio Football Show], “Again, he got too much space. Listen, Callum McGregor is a very good football player and if you go very good football players any space, they are going to hurt you.

“And I just thought at times, Callum got far too much space and when you allow players like that they do a bit of damage and that’s certainly what happened.”

For the third time this season, McGregor ran the show in the big derby. According to Fotmob, he was the best player on the park for Celtic on Saturday rated at 8.5.

In the New Year derby win the football stats site rated his performance at 8.0 with the first game of the season against Rangers at Ibrox also rated highly at 7.4.

The only game the Celtic captian struggled in was 3-3 draw at Ibrox last month where a stray pass eventually cost Celtic a goal. But as he was just returning from injury, there were mitigating circumstances for that.

The point is, the Celtic captain is dangerous weapon against our Glasgow rivals and having him in the side proves that he is vital to the Hoops domination of Scottish football.
