Albon signs 'multi-year' contract extension with Williams F1 team

Alex Albon has signed a "multi-year" contract extension with Formula One team Williams, the British outfit said on Wednesday.

His previous contract was due to expire next year. The new deal will take their partnership into 2026, when major regulation changes will come into force.

Albon joined Williams ahead of the 2022 season and established himself as their lead driver, dragging the struggling team to seventh place in the 2023 constructors' championship.

This year, however, he's yet to score a point after six races.

"It has been a difficult start to the year but since joining Williams we have made significant progress together and I have seen the huge changes happening behind the scenes to take us back to the front of the grid," Albon said.

"This is a long-term project that I really believe in and want to play a key role in which is why I have signed a multi-year contract."

Team principal James Vowles added: "Since joining, Alex has consistently demonstrated his ability to perform under pressure, and signing him for the long-term is a big piece of the puzzle of moving us up the grid."

Albon team-mate Logan Sargeant has a contract until the end of 2024, but his repeated weak performances and crashes have put a question mark on his future with Williams.
