The operator of PayPay, one of the most widely used digital payment apps in Japan, said it experienced a technical glitch for about three hours on Wednesday afternoon due to a spike in traffic to its services.
The system error disrupted payment settlements from around 12:15 p.m. to around 3:30 p.m., PayPay Corp. said.
PayPay has about 63 million registered users as of March. It settled some 6.4 billion transactions in 12 months through March, according to the company.
