The United States allocated a new financial aid package to Ukraine. The funds are provided to purchase weapons for the Ukrainian army, says US Secretary of State Antony Blinken at a briefing with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba.
"We have, of course, supplemental, and the assistance from supplemental is on its way (to Ukraine - ed.), in fact. So it's already being delivered. But today I want to add to that by announcing that we will provide an additional $2 billion in far military financing for Ukraine," he said.
According to the US Secretary of State, the funds will be allocated through the Defense Enterprise Fund. It will help Ukraine purchase the necessary weapons, and it will also be an investment in the military-industrial complex of Ukraine.
Blinken adds that funds in the new financial assistance package could also be used to buy weapons from other countries.
US assistance to Ukraine
The United States is a leader in providing military assistance to Ukraine. However, last year there was a delay in the delivery of aid, including weapons. Republicans in Congress blocked the continuation of funding for Ukraine.
In the spring, Congress finally passed the bill, resuming the supply of weapons from the United States. According to Bloomberg, the United States is considering sending Ukraine another battery of Patriot air defense systems.
