Michael Edwards will love what Pep Lijnders is about to do after leaving Liverpool

Pep Lijnders could be about to do something after leaving Liverpool that Michael Edwards would absolutely love.

It’s not just Jurgen Klopp leaving Liverpool at the end of the season, but also a lot of his coaching staff. Including Liverpool’s beloved assistant, Pep Lijnders.

Lijnders has become a popular figure at the club. He has written a book, and has worked his way up the ranks at Liverpool from starting out as an U16 coach to becoming Klopp’s right-hand man.

At times, over the last couple of seasons, he has also taken on media duties from Klopp, representing the club for press conferences ahead of League Cup games.

But along with Klopp, he too will be moving on from Liverpool.

Why Michael Edwards will love Pep Lijnders’ next potential move

One of the reasons why Lijnders will be moving on from Liverpool is because of his desire to become a first team manager.

His next move will be as a head coach rather than as an assistant manager. Lijnders has already been linked with a plethora of potential clubs. However, the latest one could be the most interesting for Liverpool.

Lijnders has been appointed as Red Bull Salzburg’s next manager with the Liverpool assistant signing a three year deal at the Austrian club.

This is a move that could be great for Liverpool and Michael Edwards. Under Edwards, Liverpool forged close ties with both Red Bull clubs, and not only made some significant deals but also arranged pre-season friendlies against each other.

Lijnders becoming Salzburg’s head-coach would only further solidify those ties.

Why Salzburg wanted Pep Lijnders as their next manager

There is no denying that over the last couple of seasons, Salzburg has fallen off the radar. The club went from achieving historic results in the Champions League to not even being able to lift the Bundesliga title this season.

Currently, Salzburg are second in the Austrian Bundesliga, two points behind the league leaders with just one more match to go.

That is why they need an inspirational new manager, and Lijnders makes perfect sense. He plays a similar style of football to Salzburg’s methods and has a great track record working with younger players.
