Report: Club realise 'wonderful' Liverpool player has been struggling at Anfield and now want to sign him

Without Jurgen Klopp for the first time in nine years, it’s going to be an interesting transfer window for Liverpool.

The Reds need to make sure they give Arne Slot all the tools to come in and hit the ground running. As a result, a couple of additions are needed.

But, just as importantly, Liverpool also need to address some areas of potential weakness within the first-team squad.

This doesn’t only pertain to incoming deals, with it perhaps time for a couple of players to move through the Anfield departure door, too.

With that in mind, Liverpool could perhaps have been given an easy decision to make. Barcelona are reportedly now circling one of their players, with intent to strike.

Barcelona pushing for Luis Diaz signing

If you ask Liverpool supporters to name the players they’d be happy to see leave this summer, it may be a relatively long list.

It isn’t that fans are desperate for anyone to be sold or anything like that. This squad have pushed hard this season and possibly even exceeded expectations. They all have value and respect.

But at the same time, it feels like barring a handful, Liverpool could recover from losing most of them. One such player is Luis Diaz, who has had a mixed season with the Reds.

Although he hit a purple patch in the early months of 2024, Diaz is without a goal in eight games. Despite this poor form, Mundo Deportivo claim that the Colombian is still Barca’s ‘most desired’ attacking target for the summer.

The Spanish giants are said to ‘know’ that Diaz has not been at his best for Liverpool, but want to sign him anyway. Barca are also claimed to have learned that a move to the Camp Nou is the 27-year-old’s ‘dream of his life’ and are reportedly now putting together a plan to sign him.

Unfortunately for the La Liga side, they are said to have no money to pull off a move for Diaz. But with an intention in place to fund his signing by selling players, Barca are reportedly ‘not giving up’ on Liverpool’s No.7. Diaz is claimed to be willing to ‘do his part’ to push through the move, too.

Should Liverpool sell Luis Diaz

There’s no getting around this one, it does feel to have legs. Whether it’s Barcelona or PSG, it does seem like Diaz might be on his way this summer.

And although it will be shame to see him leave, you do feel as though it might just be a scenario that suits everyone. As Jamie Carragher recently said, Liverpool can certainly improve on Diaz. His 13 goals this season is not an especially impressive tally.

Of course, it isn’t just his goals that the Reds would have to replace. Diaz is one of the most hard-working players you’ll see. Even if things aren’t happening for him, Lucho never stops running.

He does have games where he looks unplayable, too. Diaz’s display against Man City in March was labelled as ‘wonderful’ by Phil Thompson. Even on a day where he missed some big chances, the former Porto man stood out.

Despite that though, with Liverpool said to be targeting a new wide forward, we think the time is right to sell Diaz on. Barca will have to find the money, but if they do, this could happen.
