Jim Jordan makes last ditch effort to discredit Michael Cohen

Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) tried to help out former President Donald Trump in discrediting his former attorney and fixer Michael Cohen by posting to X a passage written by Robert Costello, Cohen's former lawyer, in which he recounted Cohen denying he had any information on Trump committing a crime.

This comes as Cohen is set to face another round of cross-examination tomorrow in the Manhattan criminal hush money trial, where he is one of the prosecution's most important witnesses in their business fraud case against the former president.

"I explained that if Cohen had truthful information that would implicate Donald Trump, I could get him out of his legal troubles by the end of the week, if he cooperated against Donald Trump," said Costello.

"I emphasized that any information Cohen could give would have to be truthful, otherwise it was useless. I did this numerous times during our first two-hour meeting. Each time Cohen said to me, 'I swear to God, Bob, I don't have anything on Donald Trump.'"

"Michael Cohen’s former lawyer, Robert Costello, just revealed that Cohen has NOTHING on President Trump," wrote Jordan.

Cohen ultimately went to prison for his own role in the hush money scheme. He has subsequently admitted to lying to Congress and several other entities in order to cover for Trump, and has claimed he did so at Trump's orders.

Cohen's credibility has been a key point of the trial. The defense, which argues that all payments to Cohen were for legitimate legal services and Cohen was acting of his own volition when he paid off adult film star Stormy Daniels says Cohen cannot be trusted. The prosecution has already conceded Cohen's past falsehoods, and sought to corroborate as much of his account as possible using other evidence and witnesses.
