Sporting director confirms 'discussions' with Leeds for left-footed star, 49ers demands are 'extremely high'

The sporting director of Leeds United star’s loan club have confirmed that they are in talks to land the left-footed star on a permanent basis, but the demands are “extremely high”.

Leeds are confident that of the players that left on loan using Victor Orta’s relegation loan clause, four have done enough to earn a permanent sale after Robin Koch and Luis Sinisterra have already departed.

After Koch and Sinisterra, Leeds have six senior players on loan with Orta’s clause. Marc Roca is in Spain, Rasmus Kristensen and Diego Llorente are at Roma, Max Wober and Brenden Aaronson in Germany.

Jack Harrison is at Everton and Leeds are confident that Harrison, Wober, Llorente and Roca have done enough to earn permanent exits come the summer, while Kristensen and Aaronson will return to Leeds.

Wober, 26, has played 27 times on loan at Gladbach and it would have been more had it not been for injury. It comes after he left Leeds in order to establish himself in Austria’s side ahead of Euro 2024.

Whether Gladbach sign him permanently remains to be seen but the German club’s sporting director has now confirmed that the Bundesliga outfit are in talks with Leeds over a deal.

Gladbach talks with Leeds United confirmed for Max Wober

Wober was only signed by Leeds in January 2023 in one of a number of reunions struck by manager Jesse Marsch. But after his arrival from Salzburg, Wober saw Marsch sacked a month later in February 2023.

The left-footed defender has a contract at Elland Road until the summer of 2027 and Graeme Bailey has told LeedsUnited.News that there is every chance he returns to the fold under manager Daniel Farke.

But now, Virkus has confirmed that Gladbach are in talks with Leeds over a deal, but admitted that the demands Leeds have are high. Bild claim Leeds want £14.5m, while Gladbach only want to pay £7.7m.

“We are having discussions with everyone involved, of course we would like to keep Max with us. But the demands are extremely high,” Virkus told Bild when discussing the future of Leeds defender Wober.

Wober recently predicted whether Leeds will be promoted

Earlier this season, and certainly in the second half of the season, finishing in the top two looked assured for Farke’s men. But a dismal run of form after the March break, Leeds have fallen into the play-offs.

A crucial game awaits Leeds on Thursday night, a semi-final second leg against Norwich after the two sides drew 0-0- in the first leg, Wober recently predicted if Leeds would be promoted to the top tier.

“Leeds are doing very well. They play really cool football, it’s fun to watch. If they keep going, everything looks like they’ll be promoted. Then the whole thing isn’t really in my hands,” Wober told Laola1.
