Jamie Carragher says Arsenal icon is 'only' star to do something better than Kevin De Bruyne

Barring a miracle which would hand Arsenal title glory for the first time since 2004, Manchester City are set to win their fourth consecutive Premier League title.

Man City beat Arsenal’s rivals Tottenham Hotspur to go two points clear at the top heading into the final day, and Mikel Arteta will now rely on his former boss David Moyes to pull off a shock at the Etihad Stadium to allow his side to pull ahead in the race.

The game at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium saw Erling Haaland score twice, with Kevin de Bruyne providing yet another assist to break the deadlock, and the Belgian was hailed after the game as one of the best midfielders to have graced the Premier League.

Jamie Carragher has now claimed that De Bruyne is one of the best foreign imports the Premier League has seen, and the only player who stands above him in this regard is one Arsenal legend.

Jamie Carragher claims Thierry Henry is the only better foreign signing in Premier League history than Kevin de Bruyne

Speaking on The Gary Neville Podcast, Carragher stated that only Thierry Henry stands above De Bruyne when it comes to foreign stars joining the Premier League.

“I actually think Kevin De Bruyne – we think of the great foreign players who’ve come to our league, you think of (Eric) Cantona, (Gianfranco) Zola, (Dennis) Bergkamp, I can just keep talking about them – David Silva, (Cristiano) Ronaldo, all these players. I think the only person who might have the slight edge over him as an overseas player coming here, is Thierry Henry,” he stated.

“I think there’s those two, and there’s the rest of underneath, in terms of overseas players who’ve made the Premier League what it is over the last fifteen to twenty years.

“I do think he’s above all those players, and it’s probably him and Thierry Henry as the two best.”

Although De Bruyne has featured in a squad capable of sustaining title victories under Pep Guardiola, as well as alongside some of the best strikers and defensive midfielders in Premier League history, many would argue that Arsenal have at least two other legends who have a legacy above De Bruyne’s for now.

Dennis Bergkamp arrived as one of the highest-profile signings in the club’s history, as a huge name joining from Inter Milan in 1995, and he brought a level of technical wizardry hardly seen before in English football.

Bergkamp was such an influential figure at Arsenal that he now has a statue outside the Emirates Stadium, and his midfield teammate Patrick Vieira is another player whose legacy still remains huge to this day.

Vieira was the captain of the Invincibles side, having joined as one of Arsene Wenger’s first signings, and was a key figure in all three of Arsenal’s Premier League titles.

Bringing a mix of technical excellence combined with unmatched physicality, there have been few like Vieira since, and he will still go down as one of the most impactful foreign signings in English football.

Henry was the greatest player in Premier League history, and his initial arrival from Juventus perhaps went under the radar.

He influenced a whole generation of strikers including Aston Villa star Ollie Watkins, and became one of the biggest superstars in football history during his time at Highbury, which no other player can match based on their Premier League careers alone.
