The intelligence of the United States has found that Russia has intensified its disinformation campaign against Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, reports CNN.
A senior representative of the Biden administration stated that Russia has seized upon various recent events to fuel criticism against Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and his ability to govern the country.
According to journalists' sources, disinformation against the Ukrainian president is "it’s definitely increasing."
CNN clarified that Russians are actively using recent developments, such as the withdrawal of Ukrainian troops from Avdiivka and the decision to postpone the presidential elections in Ukraine, for disinformation against Zelenskyy.
Against this backdrop, the United States is more concerned about the impact of such actions by Russia on countries abroad than within Ukraine itself.
"That’s why we’re briefing our allies and partners about this. We want to make sure that this type of Russian disinformation doesn’t take hold and other countries that might not realize, ‘Oh, of course, they can’t hold elections because they’re in a state of martial law as a consequence of Russia’s war.'" the source told.
Presidential elections postponed
The presidential elections in Ukraine were scheduled to take place on March 31 of this year. However, this did not happen because the country is under martial law.
In particular, elections under martial law are prohibited under Ukrainian law.
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy named additional reasons why holding presidential elections in Ukraine is impossible back in early March.
