Ukraine participates in EU Military Committee meeting: What topics were discussed?

Ukraine's military representative to NATO, Major General Serhii Salkutsan, took part in a meeting of the European Union Military Committee in Brussels on May 15, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

The meeting was chaired by General Robert Brieger, Chairman of the EU Military Committee.

Among the topics discussed during the meeting were:

  • short- and medium-term support for Ukraine by EU member states;
  • the status and results of the latest European Union Naval Forces (EUNAVFOR) ASPIDES operation in the Red Sea region;
  • the state of preparation of the EU Rapid Deployment Capacity (RDC).

The EU defense ministers also discussed the current state of key military objectives and work areas for the implementation of the Strategic Compass, as well as the future of EU military missions and the role of strategic communications in supporting them.

As we reported earlier, NATO will hold a meeting of its highest military body, the Military Committee, on May 16. As part of the event, a meeting of the NATO-Ukraine Council will also take place.
