A Florida man confessed to sexually abusing a young family member as a teen during an interview to become a police officer.

An Orange County jury convicted Stephen Bodley, 26, of sexual battery of a child less than 12 by a person less than 18, earlier this month

He faces life in prison.

Evidence of Bodley's crime first surfaced during an interview for the position of sworn police officer with the Apopka Police Department in 2021, according to Florida State Attorney Andrew Bain.

"The certified voice stress analysis examiner performed a voice stress examination on Bodley. During the examination, the examiner asked Bodley to expand on concerning answers he provided in a pre-test questionnaire. In it, Bodley described sexually abusing a child several years ago. He admitted the same when the examiner asked him to explain further," explained Bain.

"I would play sex games with [redacted] and she didn't fully understand what was happening," Bodley wrote during the pre-test interview, according to the arrest warrant reviewed by Headlines & Global News. "...she didn't know fully what was going on, and I used to watch porn a lot, so I had a little addiction when I was younger," he admitted.

Bodley said he believed the victim was 9 or 10 years old and the assaults occurred about three times. The victim and Bodley were family, the affidavit read.

Despite his confession, he denied any wrongdoing during his trial.

Bodley will be sentenced June 24.
