TAMPA, Fla. \- Tampa Police, with assistance from the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office, located the body of a woman believed to be Sylvia Pagan.
"Positive identification is pending confirmation from the Medical Examiner's Office. They will also determine the official cause of death," said Tampa Pd.
38-year-old Jovanni Caceres Steffani was the only person of interest in Slyvia Pagan's disappearance. There were no other subjects believed to be involved.
As a result of the discovery, the Missing & Endangered Alert has been canceled.
"This is not the outcome anyone wanted," said Chief Lee Bercaw. "We send our condolences to Syliva's loved ones, but most importantly, her daughter Briana during this unimaginable loss."
Tampa Police issued a Missing & Endangered Alert for 34-year-old Sylvia Pagan, who was connected with an earlier Amber Alert.
An AMBER alert was sent out early on Monday morning regarding a 9-year-old girl from Tampa who was reported missing. It was thought that she and her mother, 34-year-old Sylvia Pagan, had been kidnapped.
The 9-year-old child was located early Monday, but her mother was still missing.

Police say that just before 2:00 a.m., on May 13, 2024, Steffani was located with a self-inflicted gunshot wound in Suwannee County, but the child’s mother, Sylvia Pagan, has not been found.
“As detectives diligently work to locate Sylvia Pagan, we are deeply concerned for her overall well-being,” said the Tampa Police Department.
Sylvia Pagan was last seen at approximately 10:00 a.m. on Sunday, May 12, 2024, in the 10400 block of Altman Street.
