Sean Dyche must now give 21-year-old Everton starlet his full Premier League debut vs Arsenal - opinion

This Sunday sees Everton engage in Premier League action for the final time this season, as they travel to Arsenal with nothing on the line but pride.

The hosts, however, still have it all to play for, despite their north London rivals failing to do them a favour when they hosted Manchester City on Tuesday night.

Now, the title race goes down to the final matchweek of the campaign, and whilst the Gunners host the Toffees, the Citizens will welcome West Ham United to the Etihad.

Enthralling stuff, but for Sean Dyche, it will remain business as usual.

With the significant lack of pressure that his side will face, perhaps it marks a fine opportunity to reshuffle the pack and see what some of his lesser-known players are made of.

Sean Dyche must start Lewis Warrington vs Arsenal

Of all the young or forgotten stars who deserve a start on Sunday, surely Lewis Warrington is high on that list.

After all, having made his Premier League debut off the bench last Saturday, the next natural progression would be to give him his first start now.

Especially after the kind words Dyche said about the 21-year-old too, noting: ‘He’s been terrific. A young player, he trains so well, so hard, gives his lot, got a brilliant attitude and it was nice to get him on even if it was for a few moments.’

As an industrious yet economical central midfielder, he could well represent a cut-price replacement should one or more of this squad be forced out in the coming summer to ease the financial burden.

Everton need to find cheap replacements this summer

With a summer certain to be laden with mass outgoings, Evertonians will surely not enjoy what is set to come in the next few months.

After all, their Director of Football Kevin Thelwell has already forewarned them that some sales will be required, and in doing so he has kickstarted the rumour mill regarding a few key men.

Jarrad Branthwaite, Amadou Onana, Dwight McNeil and Dominic Calvert-Lewin are but a few names that have been touted as potential outbound stars, and the most frustrating thing is that Everton won’t even be able to reinvest the funds to replace them.

So, Thelwell faces the unenviable task of finding a cheap alternative for whoever is to leave, whether that be from free transfers or loans.

One other option he and Dyche do have is the academy, with Warrington just one name who could potentially make the step up should he enjoy a strong pre-season.

It would mark a cost-effective strategy to bleed him into the squad now and see what he’s made of, so therefore he should start on Sunday against Arsenal.
