MUTV pundit picks 'exceptional' Manchester United player as man of the match ahead of Amad

Manchester United’s players produced an outstanding performance to see off Newcastle and sign off at Old Trafford with a win.

This team needed a lift, and Erik ten Hag‘s side secured a much-needed victory for the club’s final Premier League home game of the 2023/24 season.

Kobbie Mainoo, Amad Diallo, and Rasmus Hojlund all scored the goals in a 3-2 victory over Newcastle.

It was even more impressive considering Jonny Evans and Casemiro started again at centre-back.

David May picks his man of the match

Amad Diallo enjoyed one of his best games for the club and made the biggest impression of all players.

One player matched him in our Manchester United player ratings, Bruno Fernandes. The Portuguese was also the selection for man of the match for former player David May on MUTV.

May explained: “There was a few options. I mean Bruno, the last two games Bruno has been a massive, massive miss, I thought he was exceptional tonight.

“He covered every blade of grass, was involved in Rasmus’ goal, and just an overall captain’s performance. He dragged the team forward.”

May made further reference to Manchester United’s improvement coinciding with Fernandes’ return to action.

He said: “You can see how important Bruno is as well. When he plays, this team ticks. When he doesn’t play, they don’t tick. There’s a massive gap. He’s been brilliant.”

Bruno Fernandes game by numbers

Bruno Fernandes looked fresh after returning from a rare two game absence due to injury. He was playing in an unusual role without a striker selected.

He looked more comfortable when Rasmus Hojlund came on, setting up the Dane for his 15th goal of the season, and on a personal level, Fernandes’ 12th assist.
