'Very, very good': Andoni Iraola names three Leeds players who have made the 'difference' this season

Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola has been discussing the season of loanee Jaidon Anthony at Leeds United.

Anthony made the season-long-loan switch to Elland Road on deadline day as part of the deal that took Luis Sinisterra the other way, who has since seen his move converted into a permanent deal.

Iraola has already confirmed Anthony will be returning to Bournemouth this summer with Leeds not having an option-to-buy once the season ends.

Even if Leeds did have one, it is unlikely they would trigger it anyway as Anthony has started just two league matches all season, the last of which came at Stoke City all the way back in October.

Anthony was sent out on loan by Bournemouth as a result of the amount of wingers they have and in order to earn more game time, but that just has not happened.

Iraola praises Leeds trio Crysencio Summerville, Willy Gnonto and Dan James

Anthony has been underused by Farke at times with the 24-year-old having shown glimpses of what he can do here and there.

He provided two assists in his FA Cup start at Chelsea, scored a nice goal from the bench against Watford but just hasn’t seen consistent enough minutes to build on that.

Much of the reason behind that has been due to the form of those in front of him, with Crysencio Summerville, Willy Gnonto and Dan James all having enjoyed fine seasons.

Summerville won the Championship POTS with 19 goals and nine assists, Gnonto has been on fire since February, while James has enjoyed the best goal scoring season of his career with 13.

Speaking in an interview with the Bournemouth Echo, Iraola admitted it has not been an easy season for Anthony, but acknowledged its down to the ‘very, very good’ form of that trio.

He said: “I remember the last day of the market, it was very difficult for Jaidon. I wanted to help him, because I think he played quite a lot of minutes with us in the first games.

“He is a player I like a lot. His attitude, how he understands everything we try to tell him. I was trying to help him, but I didn’t know exactly what to tell him, because I also knew all the options I had in the wingers.

“It was a difficult decision, for sure, for him. He has also gone to a place where they have very, very good wingers. They are making the difference – (Crysencio) Summerville, (Wilfried) Gnonto, (Dan) James.

“He has strong opposition for minutes. But I think he’s a very good player and I am looking forward to working again with him.”
