Report: What Bryan Gil did after Rodrigo Bentancur's tantrum during Tottenham's 2-0 defeat to Man City

It has just come to light how Bryan Gil reacted to Rodrigo Bentancur’s tantrum during Tottenham Hotspur’s 2-0 defeat to Manchester City on Tuesday evening.

It’s been a strange couple of days for the North London club, as the reaction from Ange Postecoglou after the match has caused quite a stir.

He was evidently furious in his post-match interviews and noted the club have fragile foundations both internally and externally.

During the defeat to City, Sky Sports cameras picked up Bentancur’s furious reaction to being substituted, as he repeatedly kicked the chair.

Bryan Gil had ‘wide eyes’

Football.London ran a report which delved behind the scenes at all of Tuesday’s talking points.

When Bentancur was substituted just 10 minutes into the second half, he completely lost it and Gil recognised that he had ‘no chance’ of calming him down.

“Little Bryan Gil looked up at his friend with wide eyes, knowing he had no chance of stepping in, instead simply patting his team-mate’s leg once he had finally sat down,” Alasdair Gold wrote.

Clearly, it was the timing of the substitute that infuriated the 26-year-old, as he was given just a brief period in the second half to impress before being dragged off.

Postecoglou responded to his tantrum by speaking post-match.

Ange Postecoglou not bothered about Rodrigo Bentancur’s reaction

Speaking after the game, Postecoglou was clearly not in the mood for questions and delivered a blunt response when asked about Bentancur’s outburst in the dugout.

“I didn’t notice. Don’t care,” the Spurs boss said.

Sometimes showing frustration at being taken off is viewed as a positive thing but in this case, the Uruguay international may have overstepped the mark.

It’ll be interesting to see if he’s dropped for Sheffield United this weekend.
