Fabrizio Romano confirms Aston Villa are ‘interested’ in ‘magnificent’ £17m maestro

Aston Villa can begin to look ahead to the summer transfer window, with one target now confirmed to be of interest to Unai Emery and Monchi.

It’s been quite the week for Aston Villa, who on Monday recorded a late draw with Liverpool and on Tuesday, secured Champions League football for next season.

Tottenham’s defeat to Manchester City on Tuesday night confirmed Villa’s fourth-place finish for the 2023/24 Premier League campaign, firing them among Europe’s elite in qualifying for the peak tournament in European football.

Unai Emery and his players deserve an abundance of credit for their efforts this term however, there is now work to be done by the manager and Monchi to prepare the squad for the Champions League.

The summer transfer window is fast approaching, handing the Spanish duo the opportunity to upgrade some areas of the team, with one target now confirmed.

Fabrizio Romano confirms Aston Villa transfer interest in PSG midfielder Carlos Soler

Taking to his Daily Briefing, renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano confirmed Aston Villa’s interest in PSG midfielder Carlos Soler, who is poised to be a wanted man this summer.

Romano admitted that he does ‘expect’ the Spaniard to part ways with the Parisians at the end of the season, then shared his insight into the truth of reports linking the 27-year-old to Villa.

‘I expect Carlos Soler to leave this summer, it’s over for him at Paris Saint-Germain.

‘Aston Villa are interested – the reports on this are true, but there also clubs in Spain so the situation is really open there. He could be one to watch this summer, for sure.’

While the Spain international is under contract with PSG until 2027, after being signed by the club for €20m (£17m) in 2022, the versatile midfielder has fallen down the pecking order under Luis Enrique, making just 11 starts in Ligue 1 this season.

As a result, Romano expects the Valencia academy graduate to depart the French champions, which could provide an interesting prospect for Emery and Villa.

Carlos Soler would be the perfect signing for Unai Emery at Aston Villa

After a season full of injury woes, Emery will be eager to bolster the depth in quality of his squad, with the midfield certainly an area to target.

With Philippe Coutinho expected to leave the club in the summer, the Villans must add to their depth once more in attacking midfield, something that Soler could assist with.

The ‘marvellous’ 27-year-old, as he was once labelled by journalist Sid Lowe, can play central midfield and on the right side, and could offer the boost in quality that may be necessary at Villa ahead of their campaign in the Champions League under Emery.

It would appear that the Villa boss is a fan of the Valencian, as reports in Spain via Estadio Deportivo this week claimed that the ex-Arsenal manager has been in contact with the player over a potential transfer.

Soler was once singled out as being ‘synonymous’ with victory by former PSG boss Christophe Galtier in an attack formed with himself, Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe, telling of the levels the former La Liga star could bring to Villa Park.

With a potential return to Spain also rumoured to be a possibility by Romano, it will be interesting to see just where Soler’s future lies ahead of the summer transfer window.
