'Small club mentality': Jason Cundy slams Brighton after what their fans did to Conor Gallagher

Former Chelsea defender Jason Cundy is not impressed with Brighton & Hove Albion and their supporters.

Brighton took on Chelsea at the Amex Stadium in the Premier League, losing 2-1 to Mauricio Pochettino‘s side.

Cole Palmer opened the scoring with his 25th goal of the season before Christopher Nkunku made it 2-0.

Danny Welbeck pulled one back for the home side in the 97th minute, but it proved too little, too late.

Chelsea’s trip to the Amex saw Marc Cucurella and Moises Caicedo return to their old club. Cundy had a warning for the former going forward.

Jason Cundy labels Brighton ‘mid-table club’

Cundy will not be a popular figure in Brighton right now.

He has not held back with his assessment of the club and their supporters after Conor Gallagher, who spent one season out on loan at their rivals Crystal Palace, was booed at the Amex.

Speaking about the Seagulls on talkSPORT, he said: “Brighton, my new favourite small team to beat. They are hilarious! They’re back where they are, mid-table.

“They were booing Cucurella, booing Caicedo, honestly, two of the best players on the pitch. And they even had the audacity to boo Conor Gallagher, who played for Palace, small club mentality, get back to mid-table.”

Conor Gallagher and Reece James both sent off against Brighton this season

Captain Reece James received his second red card of the season against Brighton after kicking out at Joao Pedro.

In the reverse fixture, it was Gallagher who was dismissed when he picked up two yellow cards.

Chelsea were not made to pay in either game, coming out as victors in each one despite finishing those matches with 10 men.

Nevertheless, it is quite clear to see that the Blues have had a bit of a discipline problem this term. They have picked up the most yellow cards in the Premier League after racking up 103. It is something that Pochettino needs to address next season.
