Arsenal now in ‘the best position’ to sign £34m title-winner this summer, he wants a move

Arsenal are reportedly in ‘the best position’ to sign a title-winning defender this summer who is eager for a move in the transfer window.

The Gunners are set for a busy few weeks when the window opens for business next month, with Arsenal expected to welcome some new faces as well as allow a number of players to depart for good.

A wide-attacker and central midfielder are the two positions that Arsenal are looking to strengthen in this summer, though this week has seen the Gunners reportedly take the lead in the race to sign RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko.

And Arsenal are now seemingly in a good position to land another star from the Bundesliga.

Arsenal one of the favourites to sign Bayer Leverkusen’s Jeremie Frimpong

According to Sport Bild, Arsenal are interested in signing Dutch international Jeremie Frimpong, who as per the report, is leaning towards leaving Bayer Leverkusen having won the title this season.

With a limited release clause worth €40m (£34m), Arsenal are one of the many teams chasing Frimpong, with the report stating that the Gunners are in ‘the best position’ to sign the right-back, alongside Real Madrid and Manchester United.

Manchester City are also chasing Frimpong, and with the defender’s release clause only active until the start of the Euros, the likes of Arsenal might need to be quick if they’re to land the former Celtic star.

Indeed, Frimpong has been one of the best fullbacks in Europe this season and has almost acted like a winger for Xabi Alonso’s side, and this playing styler could be why Arsenal are interested in the youngster.

Frimpong could be backup for both Bukayo Saka and Ben White

Arsenal’s righthand side is arguably the best in the Premier League, with Bukayo Saka and Ben White having tremendous synergy with each other having operated down that flank for the past two seasons.

Yet with a backup for Saka clearly needed and depth in right-back welcome, Frimpong could kill two birds with one stone for Arsenal if a move was to be made this summer.

After all, Frimpong has managed an astonishing 26 goal contributions in all competitions this season playing as a wingback, and the 23-year-old could be who Arsenal look to as backup for both Saka and White.
