Why It Matters: Musk’s acknowledgment of the issues with X’s live content feature comes on the heels of complaints about the platform’s lack of female-friendliness.

Users pointed out that X needs video integration to make it easier to upload TikTok videos. This prompted a discussion about the platform’s female user base or lack thereof.

These issues are crucial as X has struggled to retain users and creators. Data from February showed a significant decline in the platform’s U.S. user base since Musk acquired it.

X faced “the most material decline in active users compared to its peers,” according to a report by Abe Yousef, a senior insights analyst at Sensor Tower.

Despite these challenges, Musk has been pushing for X to evolve into an “everything app”. The platform now allows users to post up to 4-hour-long videos, a feature that Musk sees as a step towards the platform’s evolution into the “everything app” that he and CEO Linda Yaccarino have been talking about since 2023.
