'A willingness': talkSPORT journalist drops transfer update on Wolves' pursuit of 'powerful' target

Wolves are reported to be in talks with striker Che Adams about a free summer transfer – and now there is word on the player’s stance.

Wolves fans are hoping for a productive summer this time around, after the mess that was the 2023 window.

Gary O’Neil is hoping to be able to pack out his squad a bit more, having gone through 2023/24 with a fairly small squad that was really hindered by injuries in the end.

It is expected that a couple may be sold. But it shouldn’t be like the exodus that took place last year.

One player Wolves are looking to bring in is Che Adams from Southampton, having attempted to land him at the end of the last summer window – and journalist Alex Crook brought an update on the situation last night…

Che Adams willing to join Wolves upon the expiry of his Southampton contract

Adams is bringing down the curtain on what has been a really good season for him at St. Mary’s Stadium.

He’s scored 17 goals across all competitions, helping the Saints reach the play-offs. Southampton are 0-0 with West Bromwich Albion after the first leg of the semi-final, with the second leg taking place on Friday night.

It seems that, regardless of whether Southampton get back into the Premier League or not, the player is set to leave.

The 27-year-old has been there since the summer of 2019, and appears to be ready for a new chapter.

It was reported earlier this week that Wolves have opened talks with the player, and talkSPORT journalist Alex Crook gave a brief update regarding the player’s and Wolves’ stance last night on X. He wrote: “#Wolves back in for Che Adams. A willingness on both sides to get this one done. Out of contact at #SaintsFC.”

Wolves have been in the market for a new striker for some time now, but their precarious financial situation has made life difficult.

Wolves were in the frame to sign Adams again in January, but nothing materialised

Get it done

So it sounds as though Adams is very open to finally making a move to Molineux, and hopefully Wolves can get this one over the line fairly quickly to set the tone for the summer ahead.

Adams is a player who can help O’Neil. He may not come in to be a starting striker, but he has experience at Premier League level and would at the very least be a good squad option.

He’s someone who has an eye for goal, presses well and comes deep sometimes to influence play, and is mobile, suggesting him as being a Gary O’Neil-type player.

He has also been described in the past as ‘a powerful striker’ by The Professional Football Scouts Association.

Since he is becoming a free-agent, this is definitely an appealing player transfer for Wolves.

With Fabio Silva likely to be sold, and Sasa Kalajdzic – who will be injured until late 2024 – seemingly not rated by O’Neil, then it could be that two strikers are required this summer. Wolves can bring in Adams on a free, and then splash out a bit more on a second striker with the money that was saved.
