Opposites attract, they say. But “they” apparently never tried dating in the Trump-Biden era.

On Wednesday, the conservative website Florida Daily highlighted a new poll by The Matchmaking Company that found roughly half of Floridians will not date someone with different political views.

About 46% of Florida singles admitted that they would refuse to date someone with different political values.

Along those lines, 28% said they would most likely sever a romantic relationship due to political differences.

On the other hand, just 10% of Floridians responded that political beliefs do not influence their choice of partner when dating.

Perhaps not surprisingly, women and liberals put more emphasis on political conformity, Florida Daily noted.

The poll found that 26% of single women consider “political compatibility” something that is “non-negotiable,” while only 14% of single men shared this sentiment, the website reported.

Meanwhile, the poll noted that 58% of single women would outright reject dating someone with opposing views. Only 33% of single men share this reluctance.

Considering political affiliation, the poll found that:

  • 82% of Democrats say political compatibility is critical in romantic relationships, compared to 67% of Republicans and 68% of independents.
  • 31% of Democrats said political agreement is a must for a romantic relationship, compared to just 13% for Republicans and 9% for independents.
  • 19% of Democrats maintained that political alignment plays a crucial role in choosing a partner, relative to only 8% of Republicans.
  • 55% of Democrats said they would date a non-voter, while 70% of Republicans are open to that.
  • 52% of Democrats and 42% of independents replied that political views have never caused conflict in a romantic relationship, while 63% of Republicans reported that sentiment.
