'I think'... Alan Shearer dropped his biggest criticism of Man Utd to date and Micah Richards agreed with every word

Sky Sports pundit Micah Richards was in complete agreement with Alan Shearer after the Premier League legend dropped his biggest take on Manchester United to date.

Erik ten Hag’s second season as Manchester United manager has underwhelmed after a tumultuous Premier League campaign.

The Red Devils won’t compete in the Champions League next season after United fell well short of a top-four Premier League challenge.

United suffered a humiliating exit from the Champions League earlier this season and the Red Devils failed in their Carabao Cup title defence.

Erik ten Hag is now pushing for his side to secure any kind of European football for next season after a lacklustre season in charge at the club.

However, the Dutchman could still capture major silverware this season if United can defy the odds and beat Manchester City in the FA Cup final on 25th May.

Ten Hag’s men avoided an FA Cup semi-final upset at the hands of Coventry City last month and punched their ticket to Wembley for the final.

Shearer’s brutal Man Utd criticism

Speaking on The Rest Is Football podcast, Alan Shearer didn’t hold back with his brutal critique of the current Manchester United first team under Erik ten Hag.

Shearer admitted that he couldn’t “fault their effort” against Arsenal in the 1-0 Premier League defeat at Old Trafford on Sunday.

However, the Newcastle legend insisted that the Red Devils’ current team is the “worst” that he has seen in his lifetime.

“I think that’s the worst Man United team I’ve seen in my lifetime,” Shearer said, as per The Daily Mail.

“You can’t fault their effort – they tried [against Arsenal].

“But in terms of ability, and I know they’ve got loads of injuries, but would you argue against me being the worst in my lifetime that I’ve seen?”

Richards reacts to Shearer’s Man Utd take

Micah Richards admitted that he agreed with his fellow Rest Is Football co-host over the current state of the United team.

However, the former Manchester City right-back pointed to the problems both on the pitch and off it and claimed there is “no long-term plan” at United.

“I have to agree [that this is the worst team] because they’re just not ready yet. They’ve not got the guidance that they need,” Richards said.

“Consistently having to see young players deal with off-field, on-field, is the manager going to be here? There’s no long-term plan.

“I feel for the players because at the moment it’s making very good, young, top players look very average – and they’re better than that.”
