'I'll have to say': John Stones names the Man City legend he would absolutely love to play with again

John Stones was quizzed about which Manchester City legend he would call to play one more game for the club.

John Stones has had the pleasure of playing with club legends like Sergio Aguero, David Silva, Yaya Toure, Ilkay Gundogan and Fernandinho.

The £50 million man is now playing with City players who would be classed as club legends after that generation of players.

Names like Kevin De Bruyne, Bernardo Silva, Rodri and Ederson to name a few.

Stones says he’d call club legend to play one more game for City

But the player John Stones named, who he trained and played with for years at Manchester City was Vincent Kompany.

Stones told Ake during a video with the club’s official in-house media: “Probably Vinnie.”

Nathan Ake asked: “Why?”

Stones replied: “Just because, plays our position, be nice to play with him again and yeah, I just enjoyed being around him, playing with him and stuff so I’ll have to say Vinnie.”

Like John Stones, Erling Haaland also named Vincent Kompany alongside David Silva as one of the Manchester City legends he would love to play with.

But unlike Stones, Haaland did not have the opportunity to play alongside such icons in those Sky Blues teams.

The Belgian is considered one of the best captains in Premier League history, with Cesc Fabregas praising him for commanding respect within the City dressing room despite being injured frequently.

John Stones might have learned a lot from Vincent Kompany

John Stones and Vincent Kompany are quite different centre-backs.

Stones is far more understated and more composed in his approach while Kompany was a front-footed defender and a vocal leader.

But having trained and played with the now-Burnley boss, especially as a young player, the Englishman would have learned a lot.

From how to defend on the front foot as well as being a sweeper to being a leadership figure in the backline and always being professional despite suffering persistent injury problems.

When John Stones signed for Manchester City in 2016, the former Anderlecht colossus was arguably the best defender in the Premier League.

For Stones to have the opportunity to learn from such an elite player would have been key in his development as a top centre-half.
