'I wish I played with him': Matheus Nunes says he's gutted he didn't work with player Man City let go in 2022

Matheus Nunes has named the one Manchester City player he would have loved to play with.

Matheus Nunes has previously showcased his admiration for former City players.

In September, the Portuguese international admitted that he started watching the Sky Blues in action because of Yaya Toure’s presence.

The former Wolves midfielder also lauded David Silva, stating that he was “beautiful to watch” with the ball at his feet.

During a video with the club’s official in-house media, Manchester City’s number 27 was asked to pick an all-time Premier League team full of Portuguese and Brazilian players.

As Matheus Nunes picked Fernandinho in his side, he admitted that he would have loved to play alongside him.

The City dynamo said: “To start off, I’m going to put Fernandinho [as the] number six, what a legend.”

“I’ve heard so many good things about him, I wish I played with him.”

Matheus Nunes has praised Fernandinho in the past, hailing how much of a balance he provided to the City sides he played in and his leadership.

Imagine the pair as a double pivot

In our view, Matheus Nunes and Fernandinho would have been a top-class midfield pairing if they had the chance to play with each other.

Both players would help Manchester City dismantle an opposition’s press due to their ability to carry the ball over large distances with ease.

In addition, both Nunes and Fernandinho are adept at winning duels, which would make them a suitable double pivot.

When the Brazilian forayed forward, the former Sporting CP midfielder could sit at the base of midfield and vice versa.

Matheus Nunes would also have learned a lot about playing in central midfield at the highest level from Fernandinho and markedly improve as a player.

Luckily for the Rio De Janeiro-born dribbler, he could learn plenty of the same lessons from Rodri, Bernardo Silva and Mateo Kovacic.
