'i don't like him': Jurgen Klopp jokes he really dislikes one Tottenham player because of what he did

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has made a funny claim about a Tottenham Hotspur player because of what he did in 2019.

The German is gearing up for his final game as the Reds boss. Liverpool host Wolves on Sunday in what will surely be an emotional game for everyone at Anfield.

Looking back at his years as Liverpool’s manager, Klopp recalled one moment in 2019 that hurts him even to this day. A current Tottenham player was involved in the incident.

Jurgen Klopp explains why he doesn’t like James Maddison

Jurgen Klopp has been an amazing servant for Liverpool.

The German took charge of the Reds when they were in trouble back in 2015. He replaced Brendan Rodgers then and has since taken Liverpool to a whole new level.

Despite his greatness, Klopp has only won one Premier League trophy at Anfield. That came in 2020.

However, the 56-year-old came close to lifting the English league title on multiple other occasions, only to come second behind Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City.

Klopp has now shared what he went through at one point in the 2018/19 season.

Liverpool were going head to head with Manchester City for the title, and Guardiola’e men seemed to be struggling in one particular game – against Leicester City at home.

The game looked destined to end in a draw, but Vincent Kompany scored the best goal of his career to hand City a 1-0 win.

Klopp has now recalled how he was shouting at then-Leicester star James Maddison to close Kompany down, but the Tottenham man failed to do so.

The German has now joked that he dislikes Maddison since that day.

In an interview with RedmenTV, Klopp said about Maddison: “I’m really happy that I didn’t get a stroke in that moment. That’s how it must feel.

“I know exactly how I was, lying on the sofa, watching and thinking: ‘Maddison! Maddison, block him, close him down…’ [He didn’t and Kompany scored]

“Since then, I don’t like Maddison. And I was angry with Brendan (Rodgers) that day because he should’ve taken him off, he was tired.

“Leicester played a really good first half. After that, they should’ve scored. So it’s just a personal thing. Of course I have no problem, but it’s like when I see him… I saw him [Maddison] again last weekend.”

Silly opinion about Jurgen Klopp should stop

Jurgen Klopp did not win the Premier League title that season, and his Liverpool side failed to pip Manchester City on a few more occasions as well.

There have been suggestions from some pundits and rival fans that Klopp doesn’t deserve as much praise as he is getting because he only won one Premier League title in over eight years.

Some discredit him further because Liverpool won the league in the pandemic-hit season.

That, in our opinion, is really silly.

Klopp has absolutely transformed Liverpool. He brought them back to being one of the best clubs in the country, and he is the reason why the Reds were even able to compete for the title as many times as they did in recent years.

Irrespective of what people say, Liverpool fans adore Klopp and he will forever be a legend in their eyes.
