'Ridiculous': Ollie Watkins brutally shuts down Arsenal claim after Aston Villa secure Champions League

Aston Villa and Arsenal were watching Tottenham Hotspur’s recent showdown with Manchester City for different reasons.

Unai Emery had Champions League matters on his mind. Dropped points for Spurs and Aston Villa would be returning to Europe’s elite competition.

But for Arsenal, they needed Manchester City to drop points so that they went into the final day of the Premier League campaign with the title in their hands.

In the end, Pep Guardiola’s side did what they do best, secured the win and those in the Midlands were overjoyed.

The game was being played at the same time as Aston Villa’s end-of-season awards, so you can understand what the atmosphere would have been like.

Aston Villa’s official account captured the very moment Champions League football returned, with Emery raising his hands in delight and everyone else with the biggest of smiles on their faces.

A certain Ollie Watkins, who has openly stated that he was a boyhood Arsenal fan, was captured with a glum look on his face.

Of course, it was just a case of bad timing. But that didn’t stop a certain media outlet, SPORTbible, from claiming on Instagram that Watkins ‘didn’t celebrate’ the Manchester City win because he is a boyhood Arsenal fan and he ‘couldn’t hide his disappointment’.

Thankfully, the player himself was quick to shut it down and he used a meme from the US version of The Office, with the words ‘that’s ridiculous’ starring, Dwight Schrute.

Ollie Watkins ‘doesn’t celebrate’ as Arsenal’s Premier League title hopes dented

Unai Emery has stopped Arsenal from winning the Premier League title

More than likely, Man City will get the job done on Sunday and they will beat West Ham United – even though it is set to be David Moyes’ final game in charge.

If that happens, then Arsenal will look back on where it went wrong and why they couldn’t stop their title rivals from winning four in a row.

You shouldn’t look any further than Emery’s Aston Villa.

Not only was Arsenal’s most recent defeat against Villa, but they are the only side to have done the double over the London club this term.

Years on from sacking Emery, he is still haunting his former side!
