Julian Gressel shares how Inter Miami player reacted after ‘unreal’ MLS moment

Julian Gressel has shared how an Inter Miami player reacted on Saturday after doing something ‘unreal’ against CF Montreal.

The Herons are currently enduring their first triple-game week in quite some time, with Inter Miami winning in Canada on the weekend before drawing 0-0 last night against Orlando City SC, with DC United coming up on Saturday.

With Lionel Messi missing Wednesday’s Florida derby, Inter Miami might have to rely on other players to step up on the weekend if the Argentine is again ruled out, with the Herons missing the 36-year-old last night.

And one player could be the man for the moment after what he did against Montreal.

Matias Rojas in awe by his free-kick goal for Inter Miami vs Montreal

Speaking on the Player/Manager podcast, Gressel revealed that Matias Rojas was a little bit in awe with himself after his sensational free-kick against Montreal on Saturday.

The 28-year-old forward has been sensational since signing for Inter Miami last month, with Rojas bagging three goals and an assist in his first four games with the Herons.

And given the immense quality of the goal the Paraguayan international scored, it’s no real wonder why Rojas, and the rest of the Inter Miami squad, were stunned with what the saw from the forward.

Gressel said: “Matias steps up, and I thought it was a bit too far to shoot from, but he steps up and bangs it into the top corner, it was unreal, I think he was a bit surprised if you saw his reaction afterwards, he was like ‘oh my god, what happened?’ We are all a little bit [stunned].”

Rojas could be the perfect cover for Messi this season

With Messi out injured, Inter Miami will need cover throughout the season for the Argentine sensation if they’re to stand any chance of winning MLS Cup as well as the Supporters’ Shield.

And in Rojas, the Herons might just have that player, with the versatile attacking midfielder showcasing in his first few games with Inter Miami how deadly he can be in the right situations.

Few would have expected Rojas to take to life in MLS as quickly as he has, yet Saturday’s free-kick showed just how dangerous the forward can be.
