There's one thing Arne Slot absolutely has to change at Liverpool next season - opinion

Arne Slot will have to change one thing at Liverpool next season that Jurgen Klopp was not able to do this year.

It’s been a solid season for Liverpool. Although one that offered so much more promise. There’s no denying, though that this has been a campaign of improvement.

Liverpool have evolved and become better as a team. Last season, the Reds could not even qualify for the Champions League.

This time around all the way until April, Jurgen Klopp’s side were fighting for the Premier League title and very much punching above their weight.

Ultimately, the Reds didn’t succeed in their title endeavours, but there is still a lot to be proud of and a lot to learn as well.

What Arne Slot must change at Liverpool next season

Many people have blamed Liverpool’s downfall in the last month or so on the Reds’ inefficiency in front of goal.

However, the reality is that it has been Liverpool’s lack of defensive unity that has cost them the league title. This year Liverpool have kept just two cleansheets in the Premier League.

Those cleansheets were against Bournemouth and Nottingham Forest. In the rest of the club’s Premier League matches in 2024, Klopp’s side have conceded at least once.

That’s something Arne Slot will have to address. Liverpool need to be better defensively in order to make the next step in the club’s evolution.

Why Slot has what it takes to make the changes at Liverpool

While everyone has praised Slot’s impressive offensive work at Feyenoord, it’s important to note he has built a really solid defensive unit at the club as well.

Under Slot, Feyenoord have been really difficult to breakdown in the Eredivisie.

The numbers reflect that as well. As per Squawka, Slot’s Feyenoord have conceded the second fewest expected goals in Europe’s top seven leagues per game this season.
