David Moyes lifts lid on truly disgraceful incident

So, as the tenure of David Moyes comes to an end, it’s time for all West Ham United fans to reflect on the job he has done.

David Moyes took over as West Ham manager for the second time back in December 2019, but he is set to be replaced by Julen Lopetegui this summer.

Certain pundits including the likes of Garth Crooks have suggested that the Hammers fans have forced Moyes out of the London Stadium.

In my opinion, that’s just not true. Moyes has overseen a painful regression at West Ham since the turn of the year, and the football on display has been horrendous to watch.

The defending has been utterly shambolic. The 71 goals we’ve let in this season is the most we’ve ever conceded in the Premier League.

Only the bottom three have let in more in the league this term, and remember, Moyes prides himself on being a defensively sound manager!

It’s just not good enough, and the club were 100% right to make the decision to move the Scot on. However, that doesn’t mean we can’t all thank him for the job he’s done over the past four-and-a-half years.

The fact that he guided us to our first major trophy since 1980 is something that I will always remember and be grateful to him for.

Appreciating the fact that he’s taken us to another level, but at the same time accepting that he’s not the man to oversee the next phase of our development as a club is a perfectly fine position to take. The two things are not mutually exclusive.

Taking that into account, something that Moyes has just shared really irks me…

David Moyes shares disgraceful West Ham incident

The Scot has been speaking about his final season in charge of the Hammers, and how now is the right time to move on for both parties.

He seemed totally content in general and at peace with the fact that he will leave the London Stadium this summer.

However, he did lift the lid on a really embarrassing incident, when speaking to the Evening Standard:

“One of the most disappointing things was after our game at Crystal Palace recently,” Moyes said. “We had lost heavily but afterwards I decided to go out and sign a few autographs – just thought it was the right thing to do.”

“I was standing there and a West Ham supporter came up and said to me, ‘That trophy meant nothing. We only beat two teams, Alkmaar and Fiorentina’. I told him he was entitled to his opinion but that really bugged me. Aston Villa would have done anything to have reached this season’s final but they went out to Olympiacos who we had topped in our Europa League group.”

I have to question whether this person really was a fan of West Ham?

Every single person I know involved with the Hammers puts that night out in Prague as one of the best ever in their lifetimes.

And those born after 1980 say it was the best night in their history of supporting West Ham.

The man David Moyes speaks of was either not a real West Ham fan, a troll just trying to incite an angry response from the Scot or someone who is so blinded by hatred for the gaffer that he can’t see the wood for the trees.

Either way, I’m telling you now that whoever that man was, he doesn’t represent the Hammers fanbase, and I don’t know one single person who agrees with his sentiment.

We all realise now that Moyes’s time has come to an end but the only parting message for him should be, ‘Thanks for everything David’.
