Chris Sutton shares how he’ll really be feeling when Jurgen Klopp leaves Liverpool

Liverpool will say an emotional goodbye to Jurgen Klopp this Sunday as he leaves the club.

The Reds have enjoyed an incredible period of success under the manager, who brought them a first ever Premier League title.

Over the past almost nine years, Klopp has become the de facto face of Liverpool FC. Without him, things just won’t be the same.

And it isn’t just Liverpool supporters who are going to miss Klopp. Opposition managers – such as Jurgen’s eternal rival Pep Guardiola – have already stated their sadness at seeing the German depart.

Pundits too, although they’ve given him a hard time over the years, will be upset at the sight of Klopp leaving. BBC Sport’s Chris Sutton has explained what his emotions will be on Sunday.

Chris Sutton explains Jurgen Klopp emotions

We’re not sure it’s possible for Liverpool fans to be ready for Sunday. We’ve said goodbye to legends aplenty over recent years, but this is different.

Of course, no one man is bigger than the club. Liverpool have waved off some of the most iconic figures in English football history before, the show will always go on. But the Klopp era has been so special, so enthralling, that it will be hard not to shed a tear.

And writing for BBC Sport on Thursday, Sutton admitted – albeit jokingly – that he’ll also be finding it hard to hold in the waterworks.

“This game is all about Klopp and Liverpool, though,” he says, while predicting the Reds to win 4-0. “It is going to be an emotional day and I don’t think there will be many dry eyes at Anfield – I’ll be crying myself, even though I won’t be there.

“Being serious though, I am gutted he is going because he is a brilliant manager and his departure is an enormous loss to the Premier League as well as to Liverpool.

“Klopp is spiky at times, but he always says what he thinks and I admire that. Most football fans will be really sad to see him go, whoever they support.”

Jurgen Klopp explains final week at Liverpool

Listening to Klopp’s final press conference today, you get the impression that it has been a tough week for the boss.

With so many people touched by his time at the club, there have been goodbye’s aplenty.

One of the most important farewells has been for the players. And speaking in his pre-Wolves press conference on Friday, Klopp explained that he and his squad had a barbecue at the AXA Training Centre on Thursday.

There will likely be one or two training sessions now left before Wolves come to Anfield. And then that will be it.

Sutton certainly won’t be the only one struggling to contain his emotions.
