German explosive disposal employee charged after weapons found

A German regional public prosecutor's office has brought charges against an employee of the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Service after weapons were found at his home.

The man is alleged to have hoarded weapons, ammunition and explosive-like material, which would be a violation of the Weapons Act, the prosecutor's office in Potsdam just outside Berlin announced on Friday.

Last summer, investigators made explosive finds during a raid in the towns of Zossen, Kummersdorf and Königs Wusterhausen in the state of Brandenburg surrounding Berlin.

According to the public prosecutor's office, "substances suspected of being explosives in the single-digit kilo range, weapons in the single-digit range and ammunition" were found.

The accused is an employee of the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Service of the state of Brandenburg, which has its headquarters in Zossen. Kummersdorf is the central dismantling facility for ammunitionw hich houses a blasting site.

The judiciary in Potsdam did not provide any further information on the background and possible motives of the man, citing ongoing investigations.
