‘Superb’: Connor Roberts left blown away by what his Leeds United teammates did against Norwich last night

Connor Roberts will be looking to make it back-to-back promotions at two different clubs when Leeds United head to Wembley.

Leeds progressed through to the final of the Championship play-off final on Thursday night thanks to an emphatic 4-0 victory over Norwich City under the lights at Elland Road.

After a cagey 0-0 draw at Carrow Road, it was anything but in the second leg as an incredible home atmosphere allowed Leeds to fly out of the blocks.

Ilia Gruev’s clever free-kick inside just seven minutes got the scoring going and from that point on, Leeds refused to allow the Canaries back into the game as Joel Piroe and Georginio Rutter extended the lead to three going into half-time.

Crysencio Summerville then rounded off the scoring in the second half to set up a play-off final on Sunday 26 May against one of Southampton or West Bromwich Albion.

Roberts left blown away by Leeds performance

Having helped Burnley to the Championship title last season, Roberts was barely handed a chance in the Premier League and so joined Leeds on loan in January.

The 28-year-old has struggled for minutes since his arrival at Leeds, too, starting just two league matches. He was also a late substitute last night after being unused at Carrow Road.

But according to Joe Rodon, it did not take long for Roberts to establish himself as a big presence in the dressing room. With such a young squad, he has proved to be an important signing nevertheless.

Though a permanent deal at this stage looks unlikely, Roberts will be determined to make it two promotions in as many seasons and posted on his Instagram story earlier sharing just how impressed he was with his teammates.

He said: “Superb from the fellas last night. Hopefully a glorious day at Wembley to come.”

Roberts showing no sign of disappointment at minutes

Despite the fact Farke had to make a late change at right-back due to the injury to Sam Byram, Roberts was still left on the bench last night.

Archie Gray was the man chosen to replace Byram instead, having actually played as a number 10 in the first leg at Carrow Road.

However, Roberts is showing no signs that he is frustrated at his lack of minutes and is clearly playing a massive part off the field right now, with his experience.
