Stan Collymore can't believe what's happening with Manchester City after Everton's Premier League treatment this season

Stan Collymore has claimed the Premier League are treating Manchester City completely differently to Everton, with the champions yet to receive punishment for their 115 FFP charges.

Everton’s season has been marred by two deductions, with a total of eight points taken during the 2023/24 campaign.

There have evenbeen suggestions that Everton could face another hearing over the summer. Furthermore, 777 Partners’ protracted takeover has also cast fresh turmoil heading into what is another crucial transfer window.

Manchester City are still yet to be dealt with by the Premier League and are closing in on another league title.

And writing in his latest column for Caught offside, Collymore cannot fathom why City haven’t been punished while Everton and Nottingham Forest have.

The former Liverpool striker has suggested the Premier League have got it badly wrong.

He explained: “I believe that Premier League have got it wrong because they haven’t dealt with one single charge, and you can’t honestly tell me it couldn’t have been done in the same timescale as Everton’s and Forest’s punishments.”

Collymore has claimed that, despite the 115 charges, City will likely get away unscathed.

He added: “It would then be a template for dealing with clubs in the future because I’m sure that other clubs will fall foul of FFP sooner or later. Villa aren’t far off, and Newcastle may not be far off either.
I don’t know what the outcome is gonna be because Manchester City’s lawyers are the best in the business, and when you have the best in the business, you tend to get tangible results.”

The 53-year-old firmly believes the champions should’ve been charged this season along with Everton and Forest.

“Remember that Everton and Forest could’ve gone down this season but haven’t because they still had enough in the tank despite the points reductions,” he said.

“The point is that they could have gone down – this season – because their cases were dealt with. Manchester City cannot not be champions of England if they’re found guilty, but they will be if results go as expected because the Premier League haven’t got their collective fingers out.”

The Premier League are beyond laughable at this point

Money talks in the modern game, and that’s why City will get away with their 115 charges.

The sad reality is that the core values of English football are slowly dying in front of our eyes. The owners of Manchester City, Chelsea, Arsenal, Manchester United, Tottenham and Liverpool are more than happy to make the modern game entirely commercial and forget about the match-going fans who are a core part of the English game.

City should be punished, and if they aren’t, the Premier League will be heading down a highly concerning route.

Ultimately, losing the champions would be a substantial commercial blow to the league, something Richard Masters will be desperate to avoid.

At this point, fans of Everton, West Ham, Crystal Palace, etc, probably wish the ‘Big Six’ were allowed to leave and form their own Super League. The Premier League is better without them.
