Newsstand: Notre Dame lands at No. 6 in On3’s cornerback unit rankings

Notre Dame’s cornerbacks are among the best in the country, and On3 national college football columnist Jesse Simonton’s top-10 CB unit rankings reflect that. Simonton has the Irish at No. 6, behind Ohio State, Oregon, Iowa, Michigan and Florida State, respectively.

The Irish feature star junior Benjamin Morrison, a consensus first-round prospect entering his third and likely final season in college football.

“Benjamin Morrison missed a chunk of the spring with a shoulder injury, but when healthy, the junior is among the best cover corners in the country,” Simonton wrote. “As a freshman in 2022, Morrison had six interceptions and he followed up that up with a sophomore season where he had 13 PBUs and three more picks. Also a sound tackler, Morrison is viewed as a potential Top 10 pick in next year’s draft.”

Simonton is also bullish on the non-Morrison cornerbacks in South Bend.

“Opposite of Morrison, Notre Dame has several options including Christian Gray and Jaden Mickey, both of whom started the spring game with Morrison sidelined,” Simonton wrote. “Mickey had a pick-six in the scrimmage and was one of Notre Dame’s spring standouts.

“The Irish also brought in Arizona State transfer Jordan Clark, a veteran who projects to start at nickel back.”
