Fabrizio Romano says something big has just happened with Liverpool and Arne Slot

Jurgen Klopp has just two days left as manager of Liverpool football club.

After almost nine years at the helm, the Reds are set to embark on a brand new journey following Sunday’s game with Wolves.

And while Klopp’s departure and his comments about it are understandablydominating proceedings, there’s another side to this too.

Someone obviously has to step into the German’s shoes. And as we’ve known for some weeks now, that man will be Feyenoord’s Arne Slot.

Despite a breakthrough in talks with Slot and his club at the end of April, the question of when a formal announcement will come is still a bit of a mystery. On Friday, journalist Fabrizio Romano reported a step towards a possible answer.

Arne Slot signs Liverpool contract

For all Liverpool fans, their current focus will be on Klopp and sending the legendary boss out in the right way at Anfield on Sunday.

But the fact is that Liverpool are preparing for a new era while seeing out the last of the old one.

It now looks as though there will be no official announcement before this weekend’s game. With Joel Matip and Thiago Alcantara today confirmed to be leaving, the club have enough on their plate at the moment.

But part of the reason why there’s been nothing official come out is that Slot was yet to put pen to paper on his Liverpool contract.

Reporting on X on Friday though, Romano confirmed that the 45-year-old has now signed on to follow Klopp.

“Arne Slot formally signs his contract as new Liverpool head coach today, all documents are in place,” says the reporter. “The official announcement will follow with LFC desired timing. Work permit still pending for some of his staff members and then it will be all sealed.”

When could Arne Slot be announced as new Liverpool manager

This is good news to kick off the final weekend of the season. Liverpool are getting their house in order.

Of course, nothing should distract from the events at Anfield this week. Jurgen has earned his big farewell and although he might shy away from it, he’s going to get it regardless.

But from Monday morning, the Arne Slot era begins. It would be nice to have things officially in place by then, to really kick start the feeling of a fresh start.

If that happens or not seems like it will depend on Liverpool. Obviously, Klopp’s goodbye will not end on Sunday. We expect there’ll be plenty more content from the club, perhaps even running up until the end of the month.

However, we think that they’ll understand some slight anxiety around the fanbase and will get Slot’s arrival announced in the next few days.
