The tragic and senseless loss of Gloria Crews, a 64-year-old grandmother and caregiver in Alabama, has left her family, friends, and community reeling.

On Mother's Day, May 12th, 2024, Crews was fatally shot in front of her grandchildren as she rushed to usher them to safety during a sudden outbreak of violence at her home.

This heartbreaking incident has shone a spotlight on the ongoing challenges of gun violence in the region and the immense grief experienced by those who lose loved ones in such a manner.

Crews was a devoted mother, grandmother, and caretaker known for her kindness, faith, and tireless efforts to support those around her.

On Mother's Day, Gloria Crews had gathered with several generations of her family to celebrate the occasion.

Yahoo News reported earlier that day, she had attended church, where she sang in the choir, before returning home to host the festivities.

Crews' daughter, Lakesha Crews, described her mother as "a sweet and special soul" who "touched a lot of people with her kind words and acts."

The outdoor party was underway when, around 7:02 PM, a sudden outbreak of violence erupted.

Crews, in a selfless act, reportedly rushed the children playing outside back into the safety of her home, shielding them from the danger. Tragically, she was struck by gunfire and collapsed on her lawn, succumbing to her injuries at the scene.

In the wake of this tragic incident, the Montgomery Police Department has launched a full investigation into the shooting. As of now, no arrests have been made, and authorities are urging anyone with information about the identity or whereabouts of the shooter to come forward.

Central Alabama Crime Stoppers has offered a $1,000 cash reward for any tips that lead to the identification and arrest of the shooter.

Additionally, three Montgomery City Council members have contributed an additional $15,000 to the total award, demonstrating the community's commitment to bringing the perpetrator to justice.
