Ukrainian Armed Forces strengthen defense along border of Kharkiv region

The Ukrainian army is strengthening its defenses in the border areas of the Kharkiv region and conducting reconnaissance. The situation in this direction is being monitored by the Defense Forces, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces.

In a military report, operational information was provided as of 20:30 on May 17th.

Enemy attacks

Since the beginning of the day, the Russian army has launched 15 missiles and 70 aerial strikes against Ukrainian defenders. 105 shelling attacks were carried out with MLRS, and active offensive and assault actions by the Russian army continued in the Pokrovsk and Prydniprovsk directions.

Frontline situation

In the Kharkiv direction, Ukrainian forces are strengthening their defense in the border areas of the Kharkiv region and conducting reconnaissance. The enemy in this direction has carried out 15 air strikes using 18 CABs.

Since the beginning of the day, the enemy's losses in this direction amount to \- 133 enemy servicemen killed and wounded, 36 units of weapons and military equipment. Additionally, 8 enemy bunkers were destroyed.

The situation is being monitored by the Defense Forces, added the General Staff.

In the Kupiansk direction, there have been 6 clashes. The enemy has carried out air strikes in the areas of Kupiansk-Vuzlovyi and Vilshana.

In the Lyman direction, the Russian army dropped 8 guided aerial bombs near the city of Lyman.

In the Siversk direction, the enemy carried out an air strike near Hryhorivka.

In the Kramatorsk direction, the number of clashes with the Russian army has increased to 14. Since the beginning of the day, the enemy has conducted six air strikes in the areas of Chasiv Yar, Pivnichne, Druzhba, and Toretsk.

In the Pokrovsk direction, the enemy continues to attempt to improve their tactical position - there have already been 25 combat encounters at this time.

"The hottest spot is near Novooleksandrivka. Sokil and Nevelske have been added to the previously mentioned settlements. The situation is under control," reported the General Staff.

In the Kurakhiv direction, another air strike was recorded - in the area of the village of Bahatyr. The rest - remains unchanged.

In the Vremivka direction, there were 3 enemy attacks. The enemy operated today in the area of Staromaiorske and the direction of Kliuchove - Rozdilne.

In the Prydniprovsk direction, the Russian army continues to try to displace the Ukrainian forces from the bridgeheads on the left bank of the Dnipro River. The enemy continued attacks in the area of the village of Krynyky - the number of today's clashes here has increased to 12.

"Ukrainian units are holding their positions steadfastly... The situation on the rest of the directions is currently stable," the evening report from the General Staff notes.

Situation in the Kharkiv direction

Since May 10, the Russian army has been attempting to break through the defense of Ukrainian defenders in the Kharkiv region and are conducting offensive operations in this area. The enemy has managed to occupy several settlements that were in the grey zone.

According to the Commander-in-Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Syrskyi, Russian forces have expanded the zone of active hostilities by 70 kilometers.

It was also previously reported that in today's address, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that by conducting an operation in the Kharkiv direction, the Russian army is trying to weaken the Ukrainian Defense Forces along the entire front.
